MARCH
2008: PUBLIC HEARINGS COMPLETED
Public
hearings for
the 30s Line study were held on Monday,
March 17, at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle Street
NW, and Wednesday, March 19, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church,
2800 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Both meetings began with an open
house from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a hearing in which members
of the public were invited to speak. About 20 members of the public
spoke about the project at each hearing.
The
proceedings were recorded and transcribed by an independent firm
contracted by WMATA, and comments were entered into the public record
for the project.
DECEMBER 2007: THIRD
ROUND OF PUBLIC MEETINGS COMPLETED
The
third and final set of meetings for this phase of the 30s
Line study took place on Thursday,
December 6, at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle
Street NW, and Monday, December 10, at St. Francis Xavier
Catholic Church, 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Both meetings
were from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and followed the same format
as the second set of meetings in October. An additional open
house took place on Wednesday, December 12,
noon to
2:00
pm,
at WMATA (Metro) headquarters, 600 5th Street NW. The purpose
of these meetings was to discuss the recommendations for
the 30s Line study and gain feedback from participants.
SEPTEMBER 2007: SECOND SET
OF PUBLIC MEETINGS COMPLETED
The
second set of public meetings
for the 30s Line project took place on Thursday, October 18, at
St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle Street NW and
Wednesday, October 24, at
St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, 2700 O Street SE. Both
meetings began at 6:30 pm with an open house in which participants
viewed project materials
and spoke individually with project team members. The open house
was followed at 7:00 pm by a presentation in which the project
team explained the potential improvement concepts for the
30s Line that are being studied. The options were developed based
on rider comments
heard during the July public meetings and the survey conducted
this summer. Attendees then participated in breakout groups to
discuss what they liked and didn't like about the improvement
concepts. Both meetings ended at 8:30 pm.
JULY 2007: FIRST
SET OF PUBLIC MEETINGS COMPLETED
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit
Authority (WMATA), in partnership with the District Department
of Transportation (DDOT), conducted two public meetings
in July 2007 for the Metrobus 30s Line study. The
first of the two meetings took place on
Thursday, July 19, at
Pennsylvania
Avenue Baptist Church on Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast;
and the second took place on
Tuesday, July 24, at
St.
Columba’s
Episcopal Church on
Albemarle Street in Northwest.
For both meetings there was an
Open House from 6:00 pm to 7:00
pm, during which participants could review project materials
and speak individually with study team members, followed by a slide
presentation and a group
exercise in which participants could share their views about things that work
well and things that don't work well with the 30s Line.
If you were not able to attend the meetings, please visit this
website again later in the summer for information on additional
public meetings this fall for the project. In the meantime, you
can make your views known by contacting
the project team via e-mail.
JUNE
2007: RIDER SURVEY ADMINISTERED
On Wednesday, June 27, 2007, a rider survey
was administered along the 30s and M6 lines. From 6 am to
10 pm, the project team handed out surveys at selected stops
along the 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, and M6 routes. The team also
placed surveys in the schedule racks on buses and placed
surveys with special hangers on the overhead bars. Survey
takers had the option of putting their completed surveys
in pouches on the buses or mailing them in postage-paid later.
The surveys are a crucial part of this transportation study,
as feedback from riders will help planners at WMATA and DDOT
make the best decisions about ways to improve transit along
the 30s and M6 lines.
Approximately 6,000 surveys were available on the day of
the survey, and more than 1,000 were returned by riders. Be
sure to visit the website again soon, or attend one of the
upcoming public meetings, to see the results of the survey!
